Nobody puts Dirty Dancing in a corner! Launching in August 2026, Lonny Price (Sunset Boulevard, Beaches) directs this brand-new national tour of the untouchable 1987 musical classic. Dirty Dancing made its stage debut in Australia in 2004, before opening in London's West End in 2011.
Adapted by the film's original screenwriter, Eleanor Bergstein, this North American touring production stays true to the beloved movie, packing in all its anthemic songs - including (I've Had) The Time of My Life' and Hungry Eyes' - alongside the iconic, delightfully cheesy one-liners fans know and love. Audiences can expect exactly what they came for: electrifying choreography, steamy romance, and rock 'n' roll energy - with the tantalising possibility of a brand-new song or two.
Seventeen-year-old Frances Baby' Houseman is spending the summer of 1963 on holiday with her family in the Catskill Mountains - and she is bored out of her mind. That is, until she meets charismatic dance instructor Johnny Castle. When Johnny takes her to the resort staff's after-hours party, Baby is introduced to a thrilling underworld of dirty dancing', driven by rock 'n' roll music that is completely at odds with her sheltered upbringing and certain to scandalise her conservative parents.
When Johnny's dance partner, Penny, is forced to withdraw from the resort's annual Sheldrake Dance competition, Baby bravely steps in to take her place. As Baby and Johnny train intensely to perfect the routine, their partnership deepens into romance. But their relationship is soon threatened when Baby's father discovers the affair and demands it end immediately. Refusing to be silenced, Baby and Johnny must find the courage to dance - and love - on their own terms.
While a remake of the original 1987 film remains stuck in development hell, a belated sequel did make it to the screen: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. The film was both a critical and commercial flop, though it did feature a cameo from Patrick Swayze - reportedly earning him a whopping $5 million.
