What glitters most in this world premiere, an elaborate makeover of the 1951 Broadway tuner about Gold Rush pioneers, is Loewe's rich musical score graced with Lerner's witty lyrics.

First premiering at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre this June, Ordway Performing Arts Center is mounting a brand-new and revamped production of Lerner & Loewe's Western musical, Paint Your Wagon. With a new book by Pulitzer nominee Jon Marans, this reworked production features new orchestrations of the hit numbers They Call the Wind Maria, I Talk to the Trees and I Was Born Under A Wand'rin Star by Tony Award nominee August Eriksmoen (Bright Star).
Starring Broadway actor Robert Cuccioli in the role of Ben Rumson and a host of other Great White Way stars (as well as St Paul local talent), the musical is set in a town of prospectors in 1849 and asks whether true love can survive against the nation's lust for gold. Famously adapted into a movie with Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood, Paint Your Wagon was Lerner and Loewe's fifth collaboration.
