Why See Minnesota Opera - Silent Night?
Behind Enemy lines are hearts just like yours
A thread of shared humanity shines through during mankind's darkest hour in this moving opera from Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell, returning to Minnesota in time for the centennial of the end of World War I. Poignant yet ultimately full of hope, Silent Night asks us to examine the cost of war in the pursuit of peace.
Based on a true story
On Christmas Eve of 1914, a series of unofficial cease-fires on the Front Line saw British, French and German troops leaving their trenches to exchange seasonal greetings, sing together and even play a few games of soccer. An unprecedented event in the early months of WWI, it provided respite from the horrors around them and an insight into to those on all sides for both soldiers, and those at home.
Opening night: 10 November 2018
